Ski Trip Photo Ideas, Hour by Hour
A ski day is hostile to photography. Your hands are in gloves, your phone is in three layers, and the battery drops from eighty per cent to nothing while you are on a chairlift. The result is usually two blurry summit photos and nothing else.
These ten prompts are picked for moments when you are already stopped - the boot room, the lift queue, lunch, the bar. Only two of them ask you to shoot while moving, and one of those is a fall.
Suggested Sway setup
- Length
- 10 hours · 10 photos
- Start it
- In the boot room, before anyone is dressed.
- Mode
- Everyone sees every photo
Open. With the group split across different runs, seeing where everyone is beats locking it.
The shot list
- 1
The boot room
Gear everywhere, nobody dressed yet. Peak chaos.
- 2
Fully kitted, unrecognisable
Goggles, helmet, everything on. Guess who.
- 3
First lift
From the chair, feet dangling, skis in frame.
- 4
Top of the first run
Before you drop in. Include whoever is hesitating.
- 5
The fall
Somebody's. Shoot it before you help them up.
- 6
Lunch on the mountain
Tray, table, sunglasses tan lines.
- 7
Tracks
Look back at the snow behind you. Yours or anyone's.
- 8
Last run, low light
The slope emptying out as the lifts close.
- 9
Boots off
The exact moment of relief. From above.
- 10
The bar
Whatever the après looks like tonight. Red faces included.
Three things worth knowing
- Cold destroys battery. Keep the phone in an inside pocket and give the late hours to whoever is warmest.
- Take gloves off once per hour, not once per minute. The prompt tells you when.
- Run a fresh Sway per day rather than trying to cover a week in one.
Run this list as a Sway
Set it to 10 hours, invite the people you are with, and everyone gets one photo per hour. When it ends, the whole thing becomes a single split-screen video.
