Wedding Day Photo Ideas for Guests, Hour by Hour
The professional photographer will cover the ceremony, the portraits and the speeches better than any guest with a phone. What they cannot cover is fifteen rooms at once: the groomsman ironing a shirt badly, the aunt crying in the third row, the two kids under the cake table.
This list is written for guests, deliberately avoiding what the photographer already has. Run it as a shared Sway and the couple gets an hour-by-hour second album - the one taken from inside the day rather than from the aisle.
Suggested Sway setup
- Length
- 12 hours ยท 12 photos
- Start it
- When the getting-ready room opens, several hours before the ceremony.
- Mode
- Everyone sees every photo
Open, so guests scattered across two hotels can see each other's morning.
The shot list
- 1
The dress, on the hanger
Wherever it is hanging. Door frame, wardrobe, curtain rail.
- 2
Getting ready, wide
The whole room including the mess. Not a close-up of makeup.
- 3
The one detail nobody planned
A cracked phone screen on the dresser, the wrong shoes, the ironing board.
- 4
Arrival at the venue
From the car park. Everyone walking in, from behind.
- 5
The empty room
Chairs set, nobody in them. Two minutes before the doors open.
- 6
The back of the ceremony
Shoot from your seat, over the heads. Phones down after this one.
- 7
The first minute after
Confetti on the ground, or the crowd turning to each other.
- 8
Whoever is crying
Gently. There is always at least one.
- 9
The table, mid-meal
After the starters, before anyone tidies. Elbows in shot.
- 10
During a speech
Shoot the room listening, not the person talking.
- 11
The first dance from the crowd
Include the phones of everyone else filming it. That is the shot.
- 12
The end of the night
Empty glasses, jackets on chairs, whoever is left.
Three things worth knowing
- Check with the couple before sharing the invite - some ask for an unplugged ceremony, and hour six is the one to skip if so.
- Give the invite code to a table, not the whole guest list. Eight people with a prompt beats sixty without one.
- Start the Sway in the morning even if you arrive at noon. The hours you miss stay in the video as the couple's own morning.
Run this list as a Sway
Set it to 12 hours, invite the people you are with, and everyone gets one photo per hour. When it ends, the whole thing becomes a single split-screen video.
